At Horizon SAT Prep, we believe every student deserves more than a program — they deserve a team that knows them, guides them, and invests in their success. We are two experienced educators, each a specialist in our field: Matt Fielder, expert in SAT Reading & Writing, and Paula Nowell, specialist in SAT Math. With 25 years of classroom teaching experience each and over 15 years of SAT tutoring, we bring deep knowledge, tested instructional strategies, and a clear understanding of what it takes to help students excel.

We are also parents of teenagers ourselves. We understand the stress families feel as they navigate the college admissions process, the uncertainty, the pressure, the desire to give your child every opportunity to succeed. We’re here to make that journey clearer, calmer, and more successful.

Unlike large corporate prep companies that treat students like numbers or online AI-based programs that lack human connection, Horizon SAT Prep offers real teachers, real relationships, and real results. Our small-group, in-person model allows us to truly know each student, their strengths, their weaknesses, their goals, and to tailor instruction accordingly. We motivate, encourage, and challenge our students to reach their highest potential and achieve the scores they are capable of.

Matt Fielder — Cofounder, Horizon SAT Prep

With 25 years of classroom experience—most of them at Livonia Stevenson High School—Matt Fielder has spent his career helping students grow as thinkers, readers, and writers. A high school English teacher and SAT tutor for over 15 years, Matt has developed his own curriculum for the SAT Writing and Reading sections through years of carefully dissecting the exam, identifying patterns, and crafting strategies that truly work. He teaches all Writing and Reading content for Horizon SAT Prep.

Matt has guided students who have gone on to the University of Michigan and even Ivy League schools, and he brings a deep understanding of the test along with a genuine passion for working with students. His mission is simple: to help more young people improve their scores, open new doors, and pursue the futures they dream of. Through Horizon SAT Prep, Matt hopes to continue empowering students to achieve more than they thought possible.

Paula Nowell — Cofounder, Horizon SAT Prep

With 25 years of teaching experience at Livonia Stevenson High School, Paula Nowell has built her career around helping students develop confidence and mastery in mathematics. As an AP Calculus BC teacher with more than 15 years of experience tutoring and preparing students for the SAT, Paula brings both deep content knowledge and a gift for making complex ideas feel approachable.

Paula developed the Horizon SAT Prep math curriculum after years of studying the exam, identifying trends, and designing instruction that strengthens understanding while boosting performance. She teaches all math content for Horizon SAT Prep and is known for her clear explanations, patient guidance, and the way she brings out the best in every student she works with.

Driven by a passion for helping students reach beyond what they thought possible, Paula believes that improved scores can open doors—and whole new horizons. Through Horizon SAT Prep, she continues to support students in turning effort into achievement and dreams into opportunities.
